Afterwards Jacob went to Mr. Gill’s house on weekends to learn the Punjabi language. He spent at least five to six hours there on weekend, after finished his work at Mrs. Ruffner’s house. Moreover on working days, he used to do his daily schedule as the previous one, first he went to Mrs. Ruffner’s house in the early morning and then after completed his work from there, he go to coal mine, in the evening he again went to Mrs. Ruffner’s house. This was the daily hectic schedule of Jacob. Nevertheless after completed all his work, in the night he revised all the words and all the things that Mr. Gill taught him on the weekends. He gave his full concentration on learning the Language. Sometimes he got fed up due to his schedule. And thought of leaving all this. However he didn’t give up and just kept doing.
Time was running with its speed. Jacob was patiently regular to his work. Now when he opened the book, he could understand few of the words written in the book.
One day he took the book with him at Mr. Gill’s house. Jacob showed it to Mr. Gill and said that I’m learning language from you, so that I can able to read this book which I found from Boatwright Memorial Library. As Mr. Gill saw the book, he said,”yes you showed this book to me”
” So, you know the story of it ?” asked Jacob.
“Actually I read this long ago, so not exact I remembered but most of it. Do you want to know the story? ”
“No..no uncle I want to read this story by myself that’s why I am learning this language. Otherwise I will loose interest.” said Jacob.
“Okay okay I understand. You just keep doing.”
Three to four months had been passed. Jacob had almost learned the Punjabi language. Jacob felt so confident and excited that now he can able to read to the book and finally he will come to know the story in it. Therefore, one night he decided to read the book. After took his dinner, Jacob started reading the book. The name of the book was ‘The story of Royal Family’. He completed one page, two pages, three pages and so on. He lost so much in reading the book that he completely forgot that he have to go on work next morning. Time was running on and the pages of the book were also getting over one by one. Finally, it took him almost six hours to finish the book. Jacob enjoyed a lot while reading the book. Further he had lots of questions in his mind like, he was thinking that is this a true story or is it just a fiction. Suddenly, Jacob noticed that it was 4 : 00 AM in the morning and he didn’t sleep yet. He slept and the whole story he read in that book started appearing in his dreams.
It was 8 : 00 AM in the morning but Jacob was still sleeping. When his eyes opened, it was 11 AM along with Jacob realized that he was getting up late today and didn’t even went on work as well. He thought that his morning shift had gone to work at Mrs. Ruffner’s house, now first he should go to coal mine. He quickly got ready and went to coal mine. In the evening he went at Mrs. Ruffner’s house and said sorry for not come in the morning. That day he get comparatively less wages as he was late on his work. Jacob was not so sad as he thought that Mrs. Ruffner was surely angry on him and will definitely fired him because he didn’t inform her that he was not coming this morning but nothing happened like that.
Furthermore he went to Mr. Gill’s house and tell him that he read the whole book last night. Mr. Gill surprised that how he could read such a huge story in a day. Jacob said him that he spend 6 hours on it. After their conversation Jacob asked,” uncle is this a true story or just a fiction?”
“Yes, this is a true story but the family which is describe in this book don’t know where they are, whether they are alive or not.”
“Okay…”
Jacob was so happy that he read the book. Similarly, When he met his room owner he said,” I have read this book.”
“Very good.. so finally you did what you want to do.” Said room owner.
“Yes uncle. ” said Jacob.
In the meantime a letter arrived. His room owner called the Jacob and said,” there is a letter for you.”
“For me… who send it.” asked Jacob.
“The letter is from Andover..”said room owner.
“Andover.. surely the letter is from my parents.”said Jacob excitedly.
He took the letter and went to his room and start reading it. He read,”Jacob, my son, how are you. We are absolutely fine here. Hope you are doing very well. Now all the things are better here. Your dad also get job in workshop. Your siblings have also started going to school. House condition has improved to a great extent . The money you sent helped a lot. We all are missing you a lot. We feel so proud of you that you are doing so hard work. You just keep focus on work and trying to write a letter and tell us if you need anything. We certainly meet you soon. Don’t take any tension. Goodbye and take care.”
Jacob got emotional and tears start flew from his eyes. He wiped his tears. That moment became very emotional for him.
